Choosing an agent is probably the most important career decision you will make in your acting or modeling carer.
Here are a few guidelines outlining what process you may go through when considering an agent.
Firstly you should always, when choosing an agent make an appointment to visit them. When the appointment Is made and you are visiting your potential agent, make sure you dont only arrive early but you also look good. Since this is the person who potentially could be representing you, the agent wants to be sure that you are capable of dependability as well as making a good and attractive first impression to the potential casting director, producer or photographer.
Your agent will also want to see how photogenic you might be so, bring along with you, your head shots, contact sheets or any other examples of good photographs of your self if you dont have any professionally done. You can find contact numbers for photographers here.
When the agent is looking through your photographs, resist on commenting on them unless you are asked to, never comment about your look negatively for obvious reasons.
If you are seeking an acting agent make sure you are prepared to show a couple of short monologues to perform.

To secure a first appointment with an agent, you will usually have to submit a few photos, preferably a good quality 8x10 black and white photos, including a resume along with a cover letter requesting representation from that agency.
Just because you have done the above does not automatically mean the agent will respond in kind. Some UK agents are receiving over 50 head shots and resumes a day. If you do send out your resume to them with a few headshots and have not heard back within a month, call the agency to verify receipt of your letter and then try to set up and appointment at that time. However most times you will probably be asked to resubmit your packet.
Written below is what you should include in your cover letter when looking for an agent or representation.
Firstly include a very brief introduction stating who you are and how you heard about their agency. ( do not regurgitate your resume. An overview will be sufficient)
Then include the reason why you are writing to this agency& " I would like to set up a meeting with you to discuss representation through your agency".
Then state that you would appreciate a request for a return call or letter to schedule a personal interview.
And finally say thank you for the time and consideration.
Some agents will respond to you via the mail.
You could receive a rejection usually saying, "sorry, at the moment our agency already have an adequate number of personal with your look and with similar resume please try again at a later date Some agents will simply send out to you an information packet, possibly including a contract. Some agents may call to schedule and interview with you, which may last from five minutes to one hour.
Most agents are very very busy. But thats a good thing!! So be persistent.
