Blood- Potato

Blood- Potato

This drama exercise is best done in-group of 20 or more.

The aim of the game is to simulate the emotion of fear as well as trust, very useful if you are doing a piece on war/ bulling or oppression. It also increases the actors’ awareness of space as well as judgment

First the group leader must make sure that the area is a safe environment to work in, as this exercise involves walking around with no sight.

As a group of actors you evenly space your selves around the area you are working in

You then all close your eyes and put your arms out in front of you.

The group leader will walk around the room and then tap one of the actors on the shoulder- this person is “blood”

The group leader then explains that if you have not been tapped on the shoulder you must whisper the word “potato” repeatedly and start walking round the room still with your eyes closed- if you bump into some one you must whisper potato in their ear and they must whisper back.

When the group leader decides, he/ she will then explain that the person tapped on the shoulder will now be walking round whispering “blood” (“blood” must also walk with their eyes closed) if blood bumps in to / catches some one they must whisper ‘blood’ in to the persons ear- if they are a “potato” that person must then scream and die a horrible death!

The person who has just died must then reincarnate in to a “blood” and go around catching “potatoes” Rather like vampires – catching their victims, and turning them into their own kind.

This exercise will last until all the “potatoes” have become “bloods.”

You will find that when doing this exercise- some “potatoes” will hide in a corner whispering to themselves- some will group together and travel the room as a unit and some will be listening to the whispers intently and if they hear a blood they will run hell for leather across in the opposite direction.

An interesting game and very good for group moral and awareness.
