How To Stop Your Hands Shaking In AuditionsShaking is due to anxiety and occurs when the muscles spasmodically contract creating friction between muscles and other body tissues. This friction creates heat, which raises body temperature (causing you to sweat). During anxiety it is quite normal to experience shaking or shivering. It will pass.As mentioned it is due to anxiety/ nerves. When you practise your speech or a section of drama in the mirror at home do you shake? Probably not. When you audition you are shaking because you are nervous. “People are less nervous when they are prepared.” – practise your piece well, and then you will be more confident, simple. Also if you do find that however much you practise ‘shaky hands syndrome’ still haunts you. Try blocking your piece giving yourself minor activities to do with your hands. This does not mean reach to the heavens when your character feels the smallest amount of grief, drawing the attention away from your performance. This means try subtle things to do with your hands, hold them behind your back, clasp/ rub your hands but what ever you do, do not hold a cup and saucer! Do gestures that will compliment your piece for example a subtle scratch to the neck when your charter is annoyed, or a slight pick of the nose when thinking- (we all do it!)
